Recently, the global standard ISO/TS 19163-1 "Geographic Information Image and Grid Data Content Model and Coding Rules Part 1: Content Model", a global standard for geographic information compiled by my country, was officially released by the Global Standardization Organization.
The standard was formulated by Academician Gong Jianya of Wuhan University as the project leader, and many experts from China, the United States, Canada, Germany, France and Australia participated in the formulation of the work. The standard classifies image and grid thematic data based on attribute characteristics, sensor types, and spatial characteristics, defines a content model for each type of data that has nothing to do with coding, and describes the necessary feature information and coding rules for each type of data.
The standard proposal was formally submitted by the Bureau of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information to the Global Organization for Standardization Geographic Information Technology Committee (ISO/TC 211) in August 2012. After voting by member states, it was approved in December 2012 and formally on January 15, 2016. Officially released by the Global Organization for Standardization, it became the first global standard for geographic information compiled by my country, marking that China has become an important force in the field of global geographic information standardization. It is of great significance for my country to substantively participate in global standardization work and to promote my country's surveying and mapping geographic information technology to the world.
In addition, China was also invited to submit a proposal for a new global standard project, which mainly involves the standardization of SAR/InSAR calibration and verification, and is expected to become the second global standard compiled by my country.
The issuance of this standard marks that China has become an important force in the field of global geographic information standardization. In the future, the Bureau of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information will thoroughly implement the State Council’s plan to deepen standardization reforms, promote more of China’s superior geography information technology in surveying and mapping to the world, grasp the initiative in related technologies, and drive products, "Going out" of technology, equipment, and services will provide a strong standard support for China to move from a big country in surveying and mapping to a powerful country in surveying and mapping.
